The Orphan Crisis in Mexico and a word from our National Director:

"Hi, my name is Sarah Van Dyk, and I am excited to be joining the Fathers House team as we expand to Mexico. For the past 17 years, I have been in Mexico where I have been dedicated to serving the community of orphaned and vulnerable child. I have been the director of an orphanage, and over the years have taken babies, children and a lot of teen girls into my home. From these experiences, I have seen the importance of providing a stable, loving home to vulnerable children.

Up until recently, most kids who have been removed from their families of origin have been cared for in institutions, whether it be shelters, orphanages or children’s homes. In Baja California alone, which is the state that I reside in, there are at least 127 intuitions dedicated to the care of minors that have been removed from their families of origin. Over the past year, the government has been looking to foster care as a more viable option for caring for children. God created children to be part of a family, so even the best of institutions cannot meet the emotional and relational needs a child has. However, foster care is a new concept our area, with little to no resources offered to families who are willing to foster children.

This is where Father's House comes into play. We are working to form a community of foster families, with the hopes of encouraging others to join us to provide more safe, loving homes for children that so desperately need it. We know, that to take in a child is not an easy task, especial given the trauma that these children have endured, which is why we seek to provide relational, spiritual and emotional support to families as they follow God’s calling to care for those in need. We are advocating for the well being of children, and want to prepare and train families to give them the best tools possible to be successful. The resources provided by the local government are extremely limited, both in educational training for parents and economical resources.

To become foster parents here, mean taking on 100% of the financial needs of the child, along with doing the hard work of raising them. Fathers House will be seeking ways to best support each family to ensure that all the educational, emotional and physical needs of the children can be met. We invite you to be a part of joining us as we seek to make an impact on the lives of the most vulnerable here in Mexico. Please pray that families would come forward with hearts to care for children, and that we would be a support for them to do it to the best of their abilities. And consider donating to help provide training and assistance in meeting the needs of each family. We are excited to see what God has in store for us as we work to bring hope and healing to His children in Mexico."
